Our client envisioned a home that honored the Arts & Crafts tradition while embracing the rugged beauty of its site. From that vision emerged a design rooted in craft, authenticity, and a seamless relationship with the landscape.

The exterior is defined by broad overhangs, extended timber rafter tails, and tapered stone columns—hallmarks of the Arts & Crafts movement that give the house its grounded, sculptural presence. FSC-certified Douglas fir timbers and carefully detailed rooflines express both environmental responsibility and enduring craftsmanship. The use of FSC-certified wood siding extends this ethos, blending sustainability with timeless character.

Inside, the design opens into an elegant, contemporary interpretation of Arts & Crafts living. Clean lines and modern detailing create balance between tradition and newness, while bespoke tilework introduces artistry with a subtle, modern twist. Lighting and furniture selections continue this dialogue, reinforcing a cohesive aesthetic that feels both rooted and refreshed.

Large multi-slide and sliding doors dissolve the boundary between indoors and out, leading to decks and porches that cantilever over the steep bank. From these vantage points, sweeping views of the water become an integral part of the daily living experience.

The interiors carry forward the theme of craftsmanship and stewardship: locally sourced reclaimed timbers are repurposed as trim elements, celebrating their natural patina while highlighting the tectonic honesty of the structure.

The result is a house that pays homage to the Arts & Crafts movement while reinterpreting it for modern life—a residence that feels deeply connected to its setting, environmentally conscious in its materiality, and timeless in its spirit.
